Mulvaney: No Other Votes Until Senate Votes Again on Healthcare

CNN's "State of the Union"

It is official White House policy there should be no work other done in the Senate – including the debt ceiling or tax reform – until there is another vote on healthcare, Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said Sunday.

"In the White House's view, they can't move on in the Senate," Mulvaney told host Jake Tapper on CNN's "State of the Union."

President Donald Trump tweeted that position Saturday.

"They should stay and figure out a way to solve this problem," Mulvaney added Sunday. "Keep in mind, you're talking about something they promised to do for seven years.

"You can't promise folks you're going to do something for seven years, and then not do it."

The House, which had already passed a GOP healthcare repeal bill known as the American Health Care Act (AHCA) is on its summer recess until after Labor Day in September, but the Senate has delayed its recess for at least two weeks.

"They need to stay, they need to work, they need to pass something," Mulvaney told Tapper. "That's not only the White House position on this right now, it's sort of the nation attitude toward it."

President Trump tweeted a call for the Senate GOP to keep trying after its latest "skinny" repeal had failed at the vote of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
