Budget director Mick Mulvaney on Sunday pushed back at criticism that the Trump administration budget plan would benefit the rich — asserting the plan isn’t finalized yet.
In an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union,” Mulvaney said he didn’t know if that’s the case, and no one else does either.
“Anybody who says they can is simply lying to you,” he said.
“I’ve seen the criticism and all I can tell you is that no one can make real detailed analysis of the plan yet because it is not finished,” he said, adding: “This really is about the middle class and the corporate tax rate for the president."
Last week, President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans proposed a far-reaching, $5 trillion package that would cut taxes for individuals and corporations, simplify the tax system and nearly double the standard deduction used by most Americans.
