Poll: Dems Lead GOP by 15 Points in Generic 2018 Midterm Ballot

Democrats own a 15-point lead over Republicans in a generic congressional ballot looking ahead to next year's midterms, according to the latest Monmouth University poll.

The results:

  • 51 percent of those surveyed said they would vote Democrat.
  • 36 percent said they would vote Republican.

Other results, according to Monmouth's survey:

  • In counties Trump won by 10+ points in 2016, 48 percent of those voters would vote Republican in 2018.
  • In counties Hillary Clinton won by 10-plus, 65 percent of those voters would vote Democrat next year.
  • In counties where the margin was less than 10, 43 percent of those voters would vote for Democrats; 40 percent would vote Republican.

The Monmouth University Poll was conducted by telephone from Dec. 10-12 with 806 adults in the United States. The results in this release have a margin of error of 3.5 percent.
