Early exit polls from Tuesday's midterm elections indicate that for most Americans voting in congressional races, President Donald Trump is a direct factor in their vote.

According to preliminary numbers released by CNN, two-thirds of voters said Trump played a leading role in who they selected on their ballot in House races.

Other figures in the data:

  • 68 percent said the economy is in good shape.
  • Trump's approval rating is 44 percent, with 55 percent saying they disapprove of his job performance.
  • Healthcare is the top issue for 41 percent of voters, and roughly 70 percent said the healthcare system as it is today needs an overhaul.
  • Immigration (23 percent) and the economy (21 percent) were among the top issues for voters, while 11 percent said gun policy.
  • One in six voters, or 17 percent, said this election marked the first time they have voted.
  • 35 percent said their family's financial situation is better today than it was two years ago, while 49 percent said it is about the same.
  • 43 percent have a favorable view of the Republican Party, while 50 percent said the same for Democrats.
  • House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has a 31 percent favorability rating.

Democrats need to flip at least two Senate seats to take the majority in that chamber. In the House, the party must earn a net gain of at least 23 seats in order to win back leadership duties.
