Several news outlets made the call Tuesday evening that South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster won reelection.
Fox News, CNN, and others reported shortly after 7 p.m. that McMaster, a Republican, will serve another term. He was running against Democrat James Smith.
McMaster took office in January 2017 after his predecessor Nikki Haley left her job to become U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Haley has since announced her plans to step down by the end of the year.
McMaster previously served as South Carolina's attorney general (2003-2011) and lieutenant governor (2015-2017).
