No foreign adversaries have yet tried to break the nation's voting systems, Homeland Security officials said Tuesday.
“At this time we have no indication of compromise to our nation’s election infrastructure that would prevent voting, change vote counts, or distrust the ability to tally votes," Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said during a briefing, reports The Hill.
She and Chris Krebs, the Under Secretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD) at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), did comment that cyber actors have been scanning systems for potential vulnerabilities.
However, Nielsen repeated her comments that the national elections would be the "most secure" in the "modern era."
There are still consistent efforts from nation states to influence Americans through the use of social media.
Facebook Monday said it had suspended about 115 accounts for cases of "coordinated" activities. Twitter has also pulled accounts and pages traced back to foreign governments or those spreading misinformation.
Krebs added that there had been some misinformation spread about voting dates or poll hours, but said that for the most part, the details had been accidentally shared.
