Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will speak at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference in March, a burgeoning gathering that typically draws a host of Republican and conservative heavyweights, Newsmax has learned.
The 2008 candidate for the GOP presidential nomination joins Republican Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Marco Rubio of Florida, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, GOP Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal at the event that last year
drew 11,000 participants.
"Gov. Huckabee has always been a CPAC favorite," said American Conservative Union chairman Al Cardenas. "This will be the year that conservatives begin pulling the nation back from the brink of Barack Obama's disaster with a movement that inspires, unites, and discovers new solutions to our current challenges."
Huckabee has been mulling
another run at the White House, but has been in the headlines recently with remarks on the
Steve Malzberg Show and at the
Republican National Committee convention last week about the so-called "war on women."
“Our party stands for the recognition of the equality of women and the capacity of women,” Huckabee told the RNC gathering. “That's not a war on them; it's a war for them.
"And if the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it, let's have that discussion all across America, because women are far more than Democrats have made them to be.”
The comment set off a firestorm after two mainstream media reporters tweeted out his remarks, erroneously saying
they were Huckabee's opinion. Huckabee has since made clear "the polar opposite" was true.
Cardenas said the March 6-8 conference was expected to include more than 200 "leaders and personalities from government, politics and entertainment."
A spokesman for the conference said a keynote speaker has not yet been announced.
