Mike Huckabee on Thursday delivered a no-nonsense message to Republicans: Get out the vote or prepare for more losses like the Pennsylvania special election.
"It is a warning sign for Republicans that if they don't want to lose everything they've gained, the leadership had better turn out the vote and their voters had better turn out," the former Arkansas governor and two-time GOP presidential candidate wrote on his blog.
In a closely watched U.S. House race this week, Democrat Conor Lamb beat Republican Rick Saccone by 627 votes in a longtime GOP stronghold friendly to President Donald Trump — a result Huckabee believes liberals will exploit.
"The Democrats and the media (pardon my redundancy) will paint this as a sure sign of the coming 'blue wave,''' he writes.
In their vision, "Americans, fed up with lower taxes, a booming economy, defeating ISIS and the return of the rule of law, will rush to the polls to put Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer back in charge of Congress."
But Huckabee insists, "It doesn't mean that at all."
