Huckabee Slams Trumka: Conditions on the Rise for Workers

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee took issue on Labor Day with AFL/CIO President Richard Trumka over his comments about the economy and American workers, saying there is no way he could say matters are not good.

"Wages are up, not down," Huckabee argued on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "People are getting bonuses, pay raises they haven't in a long time."

He also noted that there is the largest number of Americans working in years, and that employment rates for women and minorities have also skyrocketed.

Huckabee's comments followed a tweet by President Donald Trump slamming Trumka for a weekend television appearance, when the labor leader criticized Trump during a Fox News interview saying the president has not done enough for the nation's workers.

Huckabee also criticized Trumka and the "entire AFL-CIO" over the union's stance on the North American Free Trade Agreement, even though Trumka on Sunday agreed the agreement, as is, has been "devastating" on workers. He also said he does not believe a revised pact will work without Canada being involved.

"Trumka and the entire AFL-CIO screamed about NAFTA from the time it was signed until Donald Trump went ahead and reformulated it," said Huckabee. "This is the hypocrisy of it. This is the complete, I guess exposure to the fact that the unions are no longer representing working men and women. They're representing the Democratic Party, whatever the Democrats do, that's great."
