President Donald Trump should ignore North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, because his responses are "making it worse," according to former Central Intelligence Agency director Mike Morell.
"We have a new president and Kim Jong Un is trying to challenge him, is trying to get him back to the negotiating table. Kim Jong Un wants to get back to a situation where we give them gifts when they do something bad," Morell said Friday on "CBS This Morning."
"We are also making it worse, right? With our bluster and by sending aircraft carriers in there, we're raising the crisis," Morell said.
The U.S. is ready to use conventional weapons in a preemptive strike against North Korea if it follows through with a nuclear weapons test this weekend, intelligence officials told NBC News Thursday.
"It's best to just ignore this guy and to deter him from ever using these weapons or selling them and to build our defenses," said Morell, who led the CIA during President Barack Obama's administration.
Trump said Wednesday that he told Chinese President Xi Jinping that if he helped solve North Korea issues, then he would offer up a good trade deal.
The president in March slammed Kim, saying he was "acting very, very badly."
