Special counsel Robert Mueller should finish up the investigation into Russian election interference, Vice President Mike Pence said Thursday.
"It's been about a year since this investigation began," Pence said on NBC's "Today" show. "Our administration's provided over a million documents. We've fully cooperated in it. And in the interest of the country, I think it's time to wrap it up. And I would very respectfully encourage the special counsel and his team to bring their work to completion."
He added that President Donald Trump's administration will "continue" to work with Mueller.
Pence also addressed the recent retrieval of three American citizens of Korean descent who had been held captive in North Korea, which he called an "incredibly powerful moment," that he credits to the Trump administration.
He said Trump has "changed the policies of the United States from an era of strategic patience with North Korea, to move toward the kind of campaign that would bring economic and diplomatic pressure to bear while reserving all other options."
The vice president added, "We do believe that the regime in North Korea has taken steps that indicate this may be an opportunity for a breakthrough, the kind of breakthrough that's eluded the United States and the world community for more than 20 years," Pence said.
"To see these three Americans come off the plane, we hope it is a sign that this is a real opportunity to achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula."
