Mike Pence Suggests Trump's Muslim Ban Could Extend to Other Religions

Perhaps in an attempt to deflect focus off of Donald Trump's Muslim ban, which he has criticized in the past, vice presidential candidate Mike Pence implied the temporary ban on all immigration would be expanded to other religions, too.

In an interview with conservative Wisconsin talk show host Charlie Sykes earlier this week, Pence, who in late 2015 called Trump's Muslim ban "offensive and unconstitutional," said it's "fitting and appropriate" to suspend "immigration from countries that have been compromised by terrorism," regardless of religion.

Sykes asked, "So there's no longer a proposed temporary ban on Muslims? It would be anyone from those countries, including Christians? Jews?"

"We would temporarily suspend from countries, or territories if you will — the caliphate obviously of ISIS expands beyond one country," Pence said.

"But to say that individuals that come from regions or countries that have been compromised by terrorism would, that we would suspend that immigration, I think that's appropriate until we develop a new vetting system."
