Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reportedly will remain in Washington, D.C., to join a conservative think tank.

Pompeo accepted a job with the Hudson Institute, a D.C. non-profit, Axios reported Tuesday.

The ability to engage in policy discussions and remain close to major Republican Party donors could help Pompeo possibly make a run for president in 2024.

"I am pleased to be joining Hudson Institute and look forward to contributing to its mission of promoting American leadership and global engagement," Pompeo said in a statement to the outlet, per the New York Post.

Hudson Institute has been viewed as a platform for policy proposals by conservatives.

"Secretary Pompeo's exemplary record of public service and his commitment to the values underpinning our mission makes this an exciting opportunity for collaboration," said Sarah May Stern, chair of Hudson's board of trustees.

The day after President Biden's inauguration, Pompeo tweeted, "1,384 days," referring to the number of days until the 2024 presidential election.

The tweet prompted speculation the former congressman and ex-director of the CIA might have his eyes on the Republican nomination.

Although it claims to have served as a forum for Democrats and Republicans to exchange views during the Trump administration, Hudson Institute has promoted many popular GOP policy proposals.

Founded in 1961 by strategist Herman Kahn, the institute, "challenges conventional thinking and helps manage strategic transitions to the future through interdisciplinary studies in defense, international relations, economics, health care, technology, culture, and law," per the official website.
