Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned Russia on Wednesday the United States will not tolerate any further Russian meddling in America's affairs.

Pompeo spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and, according to State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert, made his position clear.

"The two discussed issues and concerns related to the bilateral relationship, Ukraine, and Syria," Nauert said in a statement.

"Secretary Pompeo reiterated that though the United States seeks an improved relationship with Russia, achieving that will require Russia to demonstrate that it is prepared to take concrete actions to address our concerns, including interfering in U.S. domestic matters."

The U.S. intelligence community concluded that Russia tried to influence the 2016 presidential election through an online disinformation campaign. Special counsel Robert Mueller, whose Department of Justice team is investigating whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, indicted 13 Russian nationals for election interference earlier this year.

The Russian government, including its President Vladimir Putin, has denied partaking in any activities aimed at influencing the U.S. election.
