Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on Thursday slammed the "weak" impeachment articles approved by the House Wednesday and accused Speaker Nancy Pelosi of "hemming and hawing" with her likely delay in forwarding the charges to the Senate for trial.

"These articles of impeachment are so weak that before they even passed, the Senate Democratic leader began demanding that the Senate redo the House's homework," McConnell said in the first of two Twitter posts.

"Now the Speaker is hemming and hawing about whether they'll even proceed to trial.

"I am glad that leading Democrats seem to have buyer's remorse about the least-fair, least-thorough, and most-rushed impeachment in American history," the majority leader said in the second tweet. "They should.

"But for the sake of the country, I wish this understanding had dawned on them [Wednesday]."

McConnell has hammered Pelosi, D-Calif., about her possibly delaying the Senate impeachment trial by not sending the approved articles to the upper chamber for adjudication.

Under intense questions from reporters at her weekly briefing, Pelosi said she would only move forward with the articles once McConnell outlines the trial process.

"I would like to see a fair process, but we'll see what they have — and we'll be ready," the speaker said.
