Mitch McConnell hailed the Senate's tax bill as a "once-in-a-generation opportunity" that will "help make America an economic powerhouse again," the Senate majority leader wrote in a column for The Wall Street Journal.
McConnell shared the much-needed victory lap with Senate Finance Committee chairman Orrin Hatch, lauding the Utahn's "years of work" that was instrumental in the bill's passage.
"This was a once-in-a-generation opportunity that we could not let pass," McConnell wrote.
McConnell rattled off the benefits for the middle class and small businesses while also touting the "relief" the bill provides "low- and middle-income Americans by repealing ObamaCare’s individual mandate."
McConnell also didn't waste the opportunity to take a swing at Democrats, not one of whom voted for the legislation, forcing Republicans to rewrite the bill on the fly late last week in order to win over enough Republicans for passage.
"Democrats once claimed to support many of the foundational aspects of our legislation, like lowering taxes for the middle class and ending incentives for corporations to ship jobs overseas. But when it came time to vote, they chose partisanship over reform," McConnell wrote.
"I was disappointed to see that our colleagues on the other side of the aisle continue to oppose good ideas simply because they don’t like the current occupant of the White House," McConnell wrote.
