Mitt Romney on Ted Cruz: A 'Natural-Born Citizen'

Mitt Romney on Friday entered the fray on whether Ted Cruz was ineligible for the presidency because of his Canadian birth, reflecting on the questions raised when his father, George Romney, ran for the White House in 1968.

Here's what the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential candidate said on Twitter:


George Romney, who was Michigan's governor from 1963 to 1969, faced similar questions when he ran for president because he was born in Mexico, USA Today reports.

Questions surrounding President Barack Obama's Hawaiian birthplace dogged his 2008 presidential campaign.

Donald Trump, the 2016 Republican presidential front-runner, has said that Cruz's birth in Calgary, Alberta, could prove to be a "very precarious" issue for the party should the Texas senator win the nomination.
