Emerson Poll: Trump, GOP Lead Across the Board in Montana

President Donald Trump is leading Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden by 13 points in Montana, according to a new Emerson College poll.

The results of the poll of Montana voters show:

  • 56% of voters support Trump, while 43% support Biden. 
  • Just 1% of voters remain undecided about who they will vote for on Nov. 3.
  • Those who plan to vote on Election Day favor Trump, 81% to 19%, while those who plan to vote by mail favor Biden, 60% to 39%.
  • Independent voters are split, with 49% supporting each candidate.
  • Trump has a stronger advantage with men, 60% to 39%, than he does with women, who favor him 52% to 47%.
  • Trump's approval rating overall is at 55% to 44% disapproval. Among independents, his approval is at 45%, a 7-point increase since August.  

According to RealClearPolitics, the national polling average puts Biden ahead of Trump by almost 10 points.

In the Montana Senate race between Sen. Steve Daines and Gov. Steve Bullock, the Republican incumbent leads 52% to 43%, with 5% of voters still undecided. 

Republican Greg Gianforte holds a strong 13-point lead over Democrat Mike Cooney, 54% to 41%, in the state's gubernatorial race. Four percent remain undecided.

The poll was conducted with 500 likely registered voters in Montana from Oct. 5-7 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.
