The coronavirus crisis is proving that politics makes strange bedfellows.
Gov. Phil Murphy, who pitched himself as the anti-Trump, has for the last two months praised the administration’s response to the pandemic, and for helping New Jersey get ventilators, equipment and billions in federal funds, Politico reported.
Trump has returned the love, including during Murphy's visit last month to the White House, Politico noted — and on Friday, when he praised the governor on a local radio program that bashes the Democrat on a daily basis.
In remarks on NJ 101.5, Trump told host Bill Spadea that Murphy is a “good governor.”
“He’s working very hard, I will say. He’s very liberal," the president said. "And you’re not there and I’m not there, but he’s trying. He is trying very hard.”
The host didn’t challenge the praise.
“I’m with you 100 percent,” Spadea told Trump before the 10-minute call ended, Politico noted.
