Republicans are eagerly awaiting House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., taking over the impeachment proceedings because they are convinced he is even "more unlikeable" than Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who oversees the Intelligence Committee, the Washington Examiner is reporting.

Supporters of President Donald Trump predict Nadler will damage the Democratic case against the president. They say he is prone to acting in an unbecoming manner.

"In Jerry Nadler, Democrats have done the impossible and managed to find an even more unlikable face for their impeachment hoax than Adam Schiff," said a former White House official.

And the news outlet noted that Nadler feuded with Trump back in the 1980s and 1990s when Trump nicknamed a then-overweight Nadler "fat Jerry."

"We've been anxiously awaiting the moment that Nadler takes over the impeachment inquiry," a Republican close to Trump said. "After Schiff, he's the most incompetent and unlikable Democrat member. [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi was unhappy with Schiff's performance. Wait until she sees Nadler in action."

Republicans noted that in a closed-door hearing earlier this year, Nadler repeatedly referred to former White House communications director Hope Hicks as "Ms. Lewandowski" in what they believe to have been a deliberate sexual smear against her and Corey Lewandowski, a former campaign manager for Trump.

And they point out that during hearings against Bill Clinton, Nadler said "an impeachment of a president is an undoing of a national election."

A Wednesday hearing before Nadler's panel is expected to feature testimony from four law professors who will offer their legal analysis.

White House counsel Pat Cipollone called it a "baseless and highly partisan inquiry."
