President Donald Trump is taking "a look at" suing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., for their impeachment inquiry and presidential harassment.
"We're going to take a look at it," Trump told the 2019 Values Voter Summit Annual Gala Dinner in Washington, D.C. "We're going after these people. These are bad, bad people."
Trump said "this crooked" Schiff "fraudulently mischaracterized" his July 25 Ukraine phone call to congratulate the new president "to make it sound absolutely horrible."
"I'm going to go after him," Trump said. "They say, 'sir, he has immunity, because he said it in Congress he has immunity.' I don't care about immunity. He can't have immunity. He made up a phone call."
Trump added his "totally congenial" phone call was twisted by a "totally terrible fraudulent thing" as Schiff was "talking to the American public, lying and cheating" and now "he has to pay a big price."
"Totally different than the phony thing he revealed with this crazy whistleblower," Trump said.
Trump said Schiff's comments to the media after the congressional hearing do not have immunity and might give some opportunity for a lawsuit.
"I actually told my lawyers, I said sue [Schiff] anyway. 'He's got immunity. But they can't mean immunity for that," Trump added.
"I said, sue him anyway, even if we lose, the American public will understand.
"And sue Nancy Pelosi, or maybe we should just impeach them, because they're lying and what they're doing is a terrible thing for our country."
