If Democrats hold any hope of regaining power in Congress, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., "have to go," according to legal expert Alan Dershowitz.
"I think they need new leadership," Dershowitz told Sunday's "The Cats Roundtable" on 970 AM-N.Y., per The Hill. "I think Schumer and Pelosi have to go.
"Schumer, because of his history of lying – you know, Pelosi actually called for me to be disbarred," Dershowitz continued to host John Catsimatidis, per The Hill, "because I had persuaded some senators."
"I think the Dems need new leaders if they have any chance of returning to power."
Dershowitz is a self-proclaimed "liberal Democrat," who served on President Donald Trump's legal team for the Senate impeachment trial.
"This week was a good week for United States Constitution," Dershowitz said, per The Hill. "The Constitution won. I think the House of Representatives disgraced itself by it's partisan vote. And I think the Senate did the right thing by protecting the Constitution. I'm proud of America. The system works."
Dershowitz was roundly rebuked by Democrats seeking impeachment for his constitutional arguments against the vagueness of abuse of power and the lack of a high crime or misdemeanor.
"If a president does something which he believes will help him get elected in the public interest, that cannot be the kind of quid pro quo that results in impeachment," Dershowitz argued on the Senate floor.
