Dem Leader Pelosi Vows 'Nothing for the Wall'

Before interrupting – and effectively halting – the White House meeting on border security Wednesday, the likely speaker of the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., vowed "nothing for the wall" will come in talks to end the government shutdown.

"No, nothing for the wall," Pelosi told NBC News' Savannah Guthrie in an interview that will air Thursday on "Today." "We're talking about border security."

When Guthrie pressed the Democratic leader on that being a "non-starter" for President Donald Trump and a likely continuation of the government shutdown that will hit two weeks Friday night, Pelosi shot back a hard-line stance.

"We can go through the back and forth – no," Pelosi said. "How many more times do you want to say no?

"Nothing for the wall."

During Wednesday's bipartisan border security meeting in the White House Situation Room, Senate Minority Leader reportedly nudged Pelosi to interrupt Department of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen's presentation on border security, and she reportedly did so within seconds.

President Trump then decided to dismiss the meeting until Friday after the congressional leadership races Thursday, where Pelosi is expected to be voted back in as House Speaker.

It is President Trump's notion Pelosi will be more likely to make a bipartisan deal once her future as speaker is secure.

"Asking the president to open up government – we are giving him a Republican path to do that," Pelosi said at the end of an equally abruptly ended news conference outside the West Wing. "Why would he not do it?"

The Democratic leaders then turned to walk away from comments after Wednesday's meeting.
