Trump: NATO Members Paid 'Billions of Additional Dollars' Since Election

By    |   Thursday, 12 July 2018 02:40 PM EDT

President Donald Trump on Thursday praised members of NATO, saying that members had paid "billions of additional dollars" since he was elected.

The president had previously criticized NATO members’ defense spending.

"The U.S. pays tens of billions of dollars too much to subsidize Europe, and loses big on trade," Trump tweeted Wednesday.

However, later he turned to praise for NATO. Earlier Thursday, Trump said that NATO "is much stronger now than it was two days ago."
