White House trade adviser Peter Navarro says the first presidential debate between President Donald Trump and challenger Joe Biden showed a "dominant president and befuddled former vice president."
In an interview Wednesday on Sinclair Broadcasting’s "America This Week," Navarro tore into moderator Chris Wallace of Fox News.
"At the end of the day, we saw a dominant president and a befuddled former vice president go at it," Navarro said.
"It was real clear the president was debating two people… [Wallace] needs to drop the act and go over to MSNBC where he’ll be welcomed," Navarro said, adding: "It was a good night for the president and a horrible night for sleepy Joe."
Navarro called Wallace Biden’s "cut man."
"Chris Wallace was Joe Biden’s cut man and Joe Biden was getting cut all night… Wallace was there to lessen the blow or heal the cut," he charged.
"Biden got flushed out on the Green New Deal… and race relations," Navarro said, adding Telemundo’s poll of the debate showed Trump won it 2-1, and called the finding a good sign from a "key demographic."
Navarro also blamed Wallace for asking if Trump would denounce white supremacism and if he supported the Proud Boys, a far-right group, saying Wallace "kept hectoring him" and wouldn't let him answer.
Trump was criticized later for saying the group should "stand back and stand by."
Trump has insisted he’s previously denounced white supremacy, and on Wednesday told reporters he did not know the Proud Boys but said the group should "stand down" and "let law enforcement do their work."
