More than half of Americans surveyed for a new NBC News/Survey Monkey poll disapprove of President Donald Trump's job performance, but remain split on his executive order on immigration, MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program reported Wednesday.
According to the new poll, released Wednesday morning:
- 54 percent disapprove of Trump's performance.
- 43 percent approve.
- 31 percent say they are angry about how the federal government is working.
- 42 percent are dissatisfied but not angry with the government.
- 18 percent are satisfied but not enthusiastic over the government.
- 7 percent are enthusiastic.
- 79 percent said it is important for Congress to compromise on issues.
- 18 percent said lawmakers should stand on principles.
Show anchor Joe Scarborough, while discussing the new poll, said Trump's 43 percent approval rating would likely be a surprise to many people.
"[It is a] suggestion that Americans are still giving him a chance," said Scarborough, pointing out that with reports that Trump's support is at an all time low, "I would expect that number to be at 35 percent."
Wednesday's results additionally discovered Americans are largely split on Trump's executive order on immigration and Obamacare, which he has pledged to repeal and replace.
About half of the respondents said they approve of Trump's 90-day ban on travelers from Yemen, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, and Somalia, while 47 percent disapproved.
On the Affordable Care Act, 52 percent said they have a favorable view, while 45 percent reported an unfavorable view.
The online poll of 11,512 adults was conducted between Feb. 13-19.
