Internal Poll Has Pro-Trump Candidate in Front of NJ Governor Primary

An internal poll shows that Hirsh Singh, a Trump-supporting Republican candidate for New Jersey governor, is currently leading the GOP crowd ahead of the primary in June.

An engineer and entrepreneur, Singh leads with just over 22% according to the poll obtained by The Daily Caller, followed by former New Jersey General Assembly member Jack Ciattarelli, who has criticized former President Donald Trump in the past, with just under 20%. Behind him is Phil Rizzo, former real estate developer turned pastor with about 10%, and the former mayor of Franklin Township, New Jersey, Brian Levine, with just over 3%.

NJ.com previously described Ciattarelli as "the party’s favorite to clinch the nomination," having gained support from some of the local GOP county organizations.

The Daily Caller notes that the poll was conducted by former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale’s data scientist.

"This poll shows the race is down to two choices — myself, or never-Trump RINO Jack Ciattarelli," Singh told the outlet. "I am proud to be the only pro-Trump, America-First leader, while Jack Ciattarelli trashes Trump and his supporters."

He added, "We collected complete survey results from over 1,200 respondents, sampled to be representative of the demographics of the New Jersey likely Gubernatorial GOP Primary voter population. After collection, responses were weighted in accordance with the New Jersey likely GOP Primary voter population to ensure that the results and conclusions drawn are reflective of this group. Respondent quality is ensured with attention screening mechanisms throughout the survey."

New Jersey’s GOP primary takes place on June 8, 2021 ahead of the state’s gubernatorial election on Nov. 2, 2021. The nominee will face Democrat Gov. Phil Murphy, who earlier this month showed a high approval rating in a survey from Stockton University.

"The New Jersey GOP Gubernatorial Primary offers some insight into the future direction of the Republican Party. Ciattarelli and his establishment backers are looking to move past Trump and his fervent base of supporters. Meanwhile, Singh and his supporters believe the future of the party goes through former President Trump and the America First movement," said a source close to the campaign.

The survey polled 1,200 likely Republican voters from April 16-21, with a margin of error of +/- three percent.
