Newt Gingrich has an idea for who could be Donald Trump's vice presidential pick: Sen. Bob Corker, who he calls a "very stable guy."
The former House Speaker was asked Friday about a list of Trump's potential VP picks, on which he was No. 2. Corker, a Republican from Tennessee, was the first name on the list compiled by
USA Today.
"The only power ranking that matters is in Donald Trump's mind," Gingrich said during a live Facebook chat, reports
Politico.
"Corker's a great guy. He actually has something in common with Donald, because they've both been very successful businessmen in real estate. Very stable guy, who in some ways would balance Trump."
Gingrich also weighed in on Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, who was the third name on the USA Today list.
"She's only a freshman, but she's served in the American army, she's been in Afghanistan and Iraq," Gingrich said.
"She has a great presence, she's a very successful farmer in Iowa, and I think she would add a real energy and a real diversity to the ticket in ways that would be very exciting."
A report earlier this month said Gingrich, who served as House Speaker from 1995-1999, was
atop Trump's list of potential running mates.
