President-elect Donald Trump has taken aim at CNN and is "trying to shrink and isolate it," former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Wednesday.
Gingrich appeared on "The Sean Hannity Show" and was asked about Trump's press conference, during which he shut down CNN reporter Jim Acosta several times when he tried to ask a question.
"Trump is deliberately trying to shrink and isolate CNN, and CNN is working hard to be worthy of that," Gingrich said. "All of our listeners ought to think about this. The so-called intelligence leadership happens to have a two-page document about which we know nothing which alleges Trump might have done something which they cannot define."
Mediaite posted audio of Gingrich's comments.
Trump berated CNN for publishing a report Tuesday night that claimed a dossier put together by a former member of British intelligence showed ties between Trump and Russia. BuzzFeed later published the entire brief after CNN reported on it.
Trump has labeled it fake news. When Acosta tried to ask Trump a question Wednesday, the incoming president would not let him speak and said, "Your organization is terrible … you are fake news."
