Republican Donald Trump has a 7-point lead over Democrat Hillary Clinton in the latest WRAL/SurveyUSA poll just one week before the election.
The poll talked to 659 people throughout the state Friday through Monday who either have already voted or are likely to vote by Tuesday. Here are the numbers:
- Trump: 51 percent
- Clinton: 44 percent
Clinton led the same poll by 2 points three weeks ago 46-44 percent.
The new poll was conducted after news broke Friday that FBI Director James Comey had notified Congress his office was looking at emails in connection with its probe of Clinton's private email server. It was announced on Sunday that the FBI had gotten a warrant to search the files.
Almost one third of respondents said trustworthiness was the most important factor in their vote. Positions on issues was most important at 40 percent, experience was 17 percent and character as at 8 percent.
Those who said trustworthiness was most important favored Trump at 83 percent. Clinton came out best with those who favored experience (93 percent) and character (58 percent.)
But many still don't like either, indicating they were voting instead against the other candidate.
Thirty-eight percent voting for Trump and 32 percent voting for Clinton backers said they were doing so "with reservations."
The poll has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.9 percentage points.
