Former President Donald Trump holds an overwhelming lead in the North Carolina Republican primary, according to a survey released on Monday by Public Policy Polling.
Trump received 66% support of those polled, while former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is second at 12%.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is in third place and has slipped to 9%, which according to Florida Politics, is the worst showing he has had in any poll for the North Carolina primary.
Other candidates receiving some backing from voters were entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy at 4% and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 3%, the Public Policy Polling survey shows.
Other results from the poll include:
* Despite the dismal showing by DeSantis, he is the only Republican hopeful for the White House other than Trump that is actually popular with primary voters. Trump has an 80/17 favorability rating and DeSantis is at 56/28.
* Even though Haley has moved into second place in the poll, her favorability is at 38/44, while Ramaswamy has a favorability of 34/34 and Christie is at 13/71.
* Among those with only a high school education, Trump received 81% support in the primary, while Haley has only 2%. The former South Carolina governor does much better among those with a post graduate education, but still trails Trump in that category 40% to 28%.
Public Policy Polling interviewed 619 likely Republican primary voters Jan. 5-6 for the survey, with a margin of error of +/-3.9%.
