Donald Trump's charitable foundation has been ordered by the New York attorney general's office to immediately stop soliciting donations in the Empire State, The New York Times reported Monday.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, a Democrat, issued a "notice of violation" against the Donald J. Trump Foundation saying the Republican presidential nominee's group had been fundraising without being registered, the newspaper said.
Trump spokesperson Hope Hicks said in a statement:
"While we remain very concerned about the political motives behind A.G. Schneiderman's investigation, the Trump Foundation nevertheless intends to cooperate fully with the investigation.
"Because this is an ongoing legal matter, the Trump Foundation will not comment further at this time."
The Times reported last month Trump's foundation is not listed on the charity registers in many states.
The newspaper said Trump's foundation has 15 days to turn over "certain documents required to be filed by organizations that solicit contributions, including audited financial statements and annual financial reports."
