Donald Trump is maintaining his presidential support with many Americans despite "treachery" in Congress and "sickness" in Washington, the Republican nominee’s New York campaign chairman Carl Paladino said.

"Our government is so crooked, it’s unbelievable," Paladino told The Cats Roundtable on Sunday. "That’s exactly why people like Donald Trump. They are tired of this sickness in Washington.

"Unfortunately, the press is complicit, and there’s not much we can do about it right now."

Paladino told host John Catsimatidis the election is less about Trump and Hillary Clinton and more about "the direction this nation is going to take in the next 30 years."

"That Supreme Court issue is very, very big, and I don’t think people are going to allow people like Paul Ryan and others in the Senate and House to get away with the treachery that they’re showing right now, it’s just terrible," Paladino said.

Trump is not only challenging Clinton’s candidacy, but he is battling against a biased media and the "establishment," which has grown to include Republicans in Congress, Paladino added.

"The Washington establishment wants Hillary Clinton to be the next president of the United States," he said. "That group includes the Republican and the Democratic leadership in Washington.

"It’s unfortunate they do control the press. I have a tough time understanding how the press could be sold bold and totally ignore the WikiLeaks and the other stuff that’s been coming out on Hillary. They just are emboldened and doing a tremendous disservice to the American people."

Despite being ganged up on, Trump plans to fight back Wednesday in the third and final debate, Paladino told Catsimatidis.

"Aside from the press, I think he’s in a fairly good mood, and I think he’s well-prepared after that good experience in the second debate," Paladino said. "I think he’s well-prepared for the third one, I think he’s going to be a little more aggressive in the third debate."
