President Barack Obama is starting to lose support in solidly Democratic states. Democrats’ defeat in Tuesday’s special election in New York’s 9th Congressional District is evidence of the trend,
Politico reports.
Although Obama is highly unlikely to lose solidly blue states in next year’s election, his dwindling popularity among the Democratic base could spell trouble for him in hotly contested states.
In New York’s 9th District, which sits in solidly Democratic New York City, Obama registered an approval rating of only 43 percent in a Sept. 9 Siena Research Institute poll. Meanwhile, Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo racked up a 75 percent approval rating.
