MSNBC's Joe Scarborough warned House Republicans on Wednesday to "be conservative" and not vote on a revised plan to repeal and replace Obamacare without an analysis and score from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
The "Morning Joe" co-host took to Twitter:
House leaders set a vote for Thursday on a revised version of the American Health Care Act after moderate Republicans met with President Donald Trump and no conservatives had voiced objections.
Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California said Republican leaders expected for the revised AHCA to gain enough votes to pass the lower chamber.
Speaker Paul Ryan twice pulled the bill from floor votes in March amid strong objection by the conservative House Freedom Caucus.
Part of their objections included a CBO estimate earlier that month that 24 million more people would be left without insurance under the AHCA than had been originally estimated.
The healthcare bill was also projected to reduce the federal budget deficit by more than $300 billion.
The CBO's report was widely slammed by Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, who said the agency "looked at a portion of our plan but not the entire plan.
"We disagree strenuously with the report that was put out," Price told reporters. "We believe that our plan will cover more individuals at a lower cost and give them the choices that they want, the coverage that they want for themselves and their families."
In recent weeks, President Trump has been heavily lobbying recalcitrant Republicans, both conservatives and moderates, in a frenzied effort to repeal President Barack Obama's signature domestic legislation.
House Democrats ripped the legislation Wednesday, saying an amendment to add $8 billion over five years to cover those with preexisting conditions could still force many to lose coverage in certain states and face higher costs.
"This is deadly," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told a news conference. "No Band-Aid will fix it."
