National security adviser Robert O'Brien on Sunday morning declared that although Russia was thanked for its help in the operation to kill ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Moscow “is not an ally” of the United States.
In an interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” O’Brien pushed back on criticism of President Donald Trump for putting Russia as the first country he thanked for help in the overnight raid.
"Let me just make it very clear: Russia is not an ally of the United States,” he said.
"There are times when our interests overlaps with the interests of Russia. Last night they overlapped,” O’Brien said.
He also said the United States is confident the ISIS leader was the one killed in the raid.
“We have DNA, we have visual on him…. the DNA has ben confirmed,” he stated.
O’Brien added the ISIS leader’s body will be “disposed properly.”
