Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who defeated incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y. in the Democratic New York primary this week, has her eyes set on becoming president, the New York Post is reporting.
"Her aspiration is to be the president," her mother, Blanca Ocasio-Cortez told the newspaper.
"She has been thinking about politics since she was a teenager. She would read historical and political books old and new. She would engage in political discussions passionately."
But for now, the candidate's mother said she is thrilled with the primary victory.
"It's just incredible," she said. "I believe she would do it but so soon — it was shocking."
Crowley represents New York's 14th Congressional District. Before his defeat, he had been considered a candidate to become the next House Speaker if Democrats win the majority.
