PAC Calls for Sheriff Clarke to Run for Senate in '18

A super PAC is calling for Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, loyal supporter and aide to President Donald Trump during the transition, to run for Wisconsin's U.S. Senate seat in 2018 against incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis.

The group, citing attacks on Donald Trump supporters, started a website for Sheriff Clarke's backing for Senate, and a Facebook page, but the sheriff is not affiliated with either, according to ABC WISN-12 in Milwaukee.

"Sheriff Clarke has not looked at a 2018 bid because he is focused on his job with the county and aiding the transition for President-elect Donald Trump," a political adviser told WISN in an email statement Jan. 19.

Clarke's advisor acknowledged to WISN the Sheriff has seen the website and is aware of the movement, which has him "humbled by the support."

The deadline to appear on the 2018 Senate ballot is June 1, 2018 and Sheriff Clarke's current Milwaukee County term ends the summer of 2018. Clarke is currently a registered Democrat, despite the support for President Trump, WISN reported.
