The United Auto Workers union called for Democrats to allow a Palestinian American to speak on Thursday, the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
"If we want the war in Gaza to end, we can't put our heads in the sand or ignore the voices of the Palestinian Americans in the Democratic Party," the Detroit-based union wrote Thursday on X. "If we want peace, if we want real democracy, and if we want to win this election, the Democratic Party must allow a Palestinian American speaker to be heard from the DNC stage tonight."
A small group of uncommitted delegates has been doing a sit-in at the DNC because convention organizers haven't included a pro-Palestinian voice among the speakers.
Pressed on whether a pro-Palestinian voice should speak at the convention, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said, "I think Kamala Harris has had a very diverse convention."
More than 2,000 pro-Palestinian protesters marched Wednesday past a park where pro-Israel demonstrators had gathered earlier and toward the United Center, site of the Democratic National Convention.
The Biden administration has approved billions of dollars in weapons to Israel in its war against Hamas.
