Sarah Palin has taken a fresh swipe at same-sex marriage, saying regardless of the Supreme Court's controversial decision to legalize it, "God is ultimately in control" of the issue.

"When God created Adam and Eve as similar but oh-so-different, those very differences created the institution that's so hotly debated today: marriage. He made us 'male and female,'" the former Alaska governor wrote on SarahPalin.com.

"On June 26, 2015, five of the nine appointed Supreme Court justices voted to redefine marriage, knocking down laws all across the country. No longer, according to the court, can marriage be defined as the union of one man and one woman.

"But Psalm 33:10-12 says God is ultimately in control of the nations and His plans stand firm forever, meaning everything He ordains won't be un-ordained, even by five black robes."

Palin, the 2008 vice-presidential running mate of John McCain, says no matter what happens next from the courts, "God's law for marriage and family remains the same. And I'm sticking with His plan.

"As individuals and as a society, we need to strengthen marriage, not redefine it through the courts or devalue it through sin."

Palin has long been an opponent of same-sex unions being legalized.

She supported a 1998 constitutional amendment barring state recognition of same-sex marriage, and was in favor of an Alaska state ballot question that would deny benefits to homosexual couples.

She has been a member of at least one church that believe homosexuality is curable, like a disease.
