Arizona Republican Paul Gosar called for the arrest and deportment of any illegal immigrant attending Tuesday night's State of the Union address.
In a series of tweets, Gosar — or his office — said that the congressman asked Capitol Police and Attorney General Jeff Sessions to check identifications of every attendee.
"Of all the places where the Rule of Law needs to be enforced, it should be in the hallowed halls of Congress. Any illegal aliens attempting to go through security, under any pretext of invitation or otherwise, should be arrested and deported," Gosar tweeted.
Gosar's tweets in response to the more than two dozen Democratic lawmakers who have said they will bring Dreamers — Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients — with them to President Donald Trump's State of the Union address Tuesday night.
Gosar's tweets also come after conservative radio host Todd Starnes made the same suggestion.
"Imagine the message (Trump) could send to the world if he directed ICE agents to arrest every illegal alien in the House chamber — live on national television," Starnes wrote.
