Maine Gov. Paul LePage on Thursday said he might reconsider running for the Senate in 2018 to take on independent Sen. Angus King, CNN reported.
LePage announced in May that he would not run, but is reconsidering given the lackluster campaign of the current Republican challenger, state Sen. Eric Brakey, LePage told a Maine radio station Thursday.
"I'm going to watch what Eric Brakey's doing, and if he doesn't start resonating pretty quick, there's a possibility I might change my mind," LePage told WGAN.

LePage has been a staunch backer of President Donald Trump.
"I wish Eric, I wish people would start paying more attention to him. I'm hoping he takes off. He is young and it's an uphill battle, but he is a great guy and a good person," LePage told WGAN.
Though independent, King, a former Democrat and two-term governor of Maine, is largely viewed as a conservative Democrat in the Senate, a seat he won in 2012. Opponents are billing him as a legacy Democrat in their campaigns against him in 2018.
