Paul Ryan Keeping Options Open on 2016 Presidential Run

Addressing a breakfast fundraiser at the posh Manhattan Metropolitan Club, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan said he had asked backers "to keep their powder dry" until he makes a decision about a 2016 presidential run, Politico reported.

Ryan told about 40 or so donors supporting his campaign for re-election to the House that he had yet to have a serious discuss about a presidential run with his wife Janna.

Asking donors to keep their powder dry and presumably refrain from committing to other candidates can be seen as a "serious indication he might run," according to Politico.

Back in Washington, Ryan told Politico that he did not want to discuss the presidential race. He said he told the New York gathering that he was "keeping my options open."

Among those present at the breakfast were financial heavy-hitters  Dan Loeb, Wilbur Ross,  Wayne Berman, and New York Jets owner Woody Johnson.

Ryan was Mitt Romney's vice presidential running mate in 2012. As chairman of the House Budget Committee, he has focused his energies on fiscal matters and presented his own "Pathway to Prosperity" budget plan. The proposal has the support of the Republican leadership in the House.
