House Speaker Paul Ryan suggested that he believes former FBI Director James Comey to be a man of integrity — a view that runs counter to that of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
In an interview aired Sunday on NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” the retiring Wisconsin Republican was grilled about the fired director’s new book, “A Higher Loyalty,” and was asked by host Chuck Todd if Comey was “a man of integrity.”
"As far as I know,” he replied. “I don't know him very well. ... Two or three briefings is about what I had with James Comey.”
Pressed on whether Ryan would take Comey at his word and “trust his judgment,” the lawmaker pushed back, however.
"Look. I'm not going to try and help sell some books here,” he said.
“I don’t know the guy,” he added. “I’ve met him two or three times… I don’t want to join some book-selling food fight.”
