House Speaker Paul Ryan said President Donald Trump should let special counsel Robert Mueller continue with the investigation into Russia's election meddling.
"I think we should let Bob Mueller do his work and get to the bottom of it, and get to the bottom of it quickly so that he can be vindicated…" Ryan said during an interview on the Hugh Hewitt radio show.
"Let's not forget what this is originally all about. Russia is up to no good. Russia is trying to meddle into our elections…"
Ryan, R-Wis., said Trump should not fire Mueller.
And they follow remarks by Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy, who told Judy Woodruff of the "PBS NewsHour:"
"I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel," Ruddy said of Trump. "I think he's weighing that option. I think it's pretty clear by what one of his lawyers said on television recently."
But Ryan said: "Well, I'm not going to get into hypotheticals. I'd be surprised if he did that. I think he should let Bob Mueller do his job, do his job independently, and do his job quickly, because I think that that's what he would want to have happen."
