House Speaker Paul Ryan's donors and allies are supplying $1 million for TV ads pitching Republican replacements to the Affordable Care Act in one of the first attempts by outside groups to influence public opinion on the plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, CNN reports.
The American Action Network, a nonprofit financed by Ryan supporters, will release the ad campaign in 15 districts, ones the house key Republican committee chairs and legislators at risk next year.
"Imagine a new path forward," the spot says while listing GOP healthcare policies, according to CNN. "House Republicans have a plan to get there, without disrupting existing coverage."
The group studied the Democratic campaign against repealing Obamacare, which said the GOP wanted to "Make America Sick Again."
AAN leader Corry Bliss called it a "publicity stunt."
"Americans should know that Speaker Ryan and House Republicans have a plan to replace Obamacare with quality, affordable health care," he said in a statement, according to CNN. "For all the noise over Obamacare repeal, this much is clear: Americans support the House Republican plan and believe in a fair transition period to get there."
Bliss recently took control of AAN, as well as the Congressional Leadership Fund Super PAC. In 2016 the two organizations spent $48 million on more than 30 House races and only lost three, according to Politico.
"We are excited to welcome Corry to AAN and CLF," AAN chairman and former Minnesota senator Norm Coleman told Politico. "Corry is one of the best young operatives in the country and just managed one of the best campaigns of the 2016 cycle. I look forward to working with him to build on our success, and I know we will continue to impact our nation's policies and leaders under his watch."
