The speed with which longtime U.S. diplomat Kurt Volker was brought behind closed doors to testify before members of Congress shows Democrats are in a "rush to judgment," Rep. Pete King said Thursday.
"I think they know what their conclusion is going to be before they start," the New York Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
"What Mr. Volker can add to it, I don't know. Obviously he was involved somewhat with Mayor [Rudy] Giuliani. He knows probably quite a bit about corruption in Ukraine."
Volker resigned as special representative for Ukraine negotiations last Friday after a whistleblower report on President Donald Trump's phone call with Ukraine's president went public. Just six days later, on Thursday, he was being interviewed by three House committees.
"The fact that again, the committees are moving so quickly, [and that] shows that they want to really have a rush to judgment here and they want to get this over with, and they want to have an impeachment," said King.
King also said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who told ABC's "Good Morning America" Thursday that it was more fair to have an impeachment inquiry, rather than proceedings, has "pre-judged" the matter, and if it was truly an inquiry, both sides would have the right to subpoena witnesses.
"When this was done with [Richard] Nixon and with Bill Clinton, there were strict parameters laid out," said King. "In this case, the Democrats seem to be keeping it very close and tight."
He conceded that Pelosi is "right" that impeachment is a serious matter, as it's only been invoked three times in the history of the nation, and it is "really wrong" to use it as a "political attack."
