Sharing a message of hope, unity, and an indomitable American spirit, Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., called on lawmakers to "stop the petty fighting," as New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and President Donald Trump have.

"They are classic New Yorkers: They spend half their time fighting, but when the game is on the line, they come together and use all their fighting spirit to combat the common enemy they have," King told Sunday's "The Cats Roundtable" on 970 AM-N.Y.

"Right now, it's a great team, they're doing the job, they're getting it done."

It is not the same everywhere, including the media at the White House daily coronavirus task force press briefings, or perhaps New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio who pointed an angry finger at Trump for the deaths in his city.

"I just wish people on both sides would stop taking the shots," King added to host John Catsimatidis. "Let's stand together. When this is all over, there is plenty of time for politics to resume again.

"Let's work together as Americans the way we did during World War II and other crises."

King expressed hope the crisis will abate and the economy will get back to raging again, as Trump has expressed.

"We also know that it's going to pass, but it won't pass until people stop congregating and getting together," King said.

"Once this disease is under control, once this epidemic stops, we're going to take-off like a rocket. No country in the world has the infrastructure, the ingenuity, or the sense of drive that we have as Americans."

King's positive message did not extend to China for its role in the global coronavirus pandemic.

"If China had, right up front, done what it should've done as a responsible world citizen, we would not be in this position today," he concluded. "It's indefensible. And there has to be consequences for their terrible behavior."
