Report: Trump Wanted FBI Agents Strzok, Page Fired

Report: Trump Wanted FBI Agents Strzok, Page Fired

By    |   Friday, 20 April 2018 01:32 PM EDT

President Donald Trump aggressively questioned Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Christopher Wray in January about two senior FBI officials who were still employed by the agency after sending text messages disparaging him, Vox reports.

Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, two FBI officials who were having an extramarital affair, were found to have sent numerous text messages describing Trump negatively while they were working on the agency’s investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email server in 2016. They also wrote disparagingly of Clinton, then the Democratic candidate for president, and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., during that same time period. Trump accused the two of “treason” in a tweet last February.

During a White House meeting on January 22, Trump allegedly asked why the two officials still had their jobs, and pushed Sessions and Wray to work harder at finding more information that they could give to congressional Republicans to discredit the officials. The following day, Trump met privately with Sessions and pushed for the two officials to be fired, two unnamed sources told Vox.

Spokespeople for the FBI and the Justice Department declined to comment on any conversations or meetings with the president.
