Former Vice President Joe Biden should have known better than to stay in charge of Ukraine corruption while his son Hunter was taking money from Ukraine business interests – "an appearance of evil" – according to Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y.
"Joe Biden was in charge of working with the Ukrainians to make sure they got rid of all the corruption," King told "The Cats Roundtable" on 970 AM-N.Y. "What Joe Biden should have done is step down from that position. If his son was going to stay on with the job, then Joe Biden had an obligation to step down as far as that responsibility.
"He could stay on as vice president, but not have dealings with the Ukraine."
King told host John Catsimatidis he is "sure" the only reason Hunter Biden got a lucrative job on the board of a Ukraine energy company "is because his father was the vice president" and Joe Biden was seeking to root out Ukraine corruption. Biden should have avoided this "conflict of interest."
"It's too much of a direct conflict of interest with his family," King added. "He should've known that. It certainly has an appearance of evil. He really has no reason to complain about this at all."
King rejected the investigation of this revelation as being an impeachable offense. It is utter hypocrisy, he said.
"If this were the other way around, and somehow Donald Trump's family was involved in Russia, do you think for a moment the Democrats wouldn't be asking what information they had on Donald Trump?" King told Catsimatidis.
"If this were Donald Trump being investigated the person investigating would be called a hero. Because President Trump is asking Biden to be investigated somehow he's going to be impeached."
King said this is an example of abusing impeachment for "cheap political purposes."
"I'm sure Alexander Hamilton and others who wrote the Federalist Papers never contemplated that impeachment would be so abused like this for a cheap political purposes," King said.
